As a pastor of 32 years who has worked in both small (tiny) and large churches, I prefer small churches. I love these "reasons" and believe they are unequivocally true. In the past I have "lost" parishioners who have left for megachurches and my reaearch has shown they left because they wanted to "be where the action is." I find this no different than worldly reasons people would rather go see a rock concert than listen to a guitarist perform solo at a coffee house. It is a herd mentality and this, in my opinion, is anti-thetical to the gospel. Biblically it smacks of the kind of worldly rivalry that the apostle Paul encountered at Corinth. It is the "cult of personality" (no apologies for the "pun" here) that pervades our sick American culture.

Hello, my name is Zoie Schultz and I'm with the Mansfield High School EAST Lab program. I've heard about what happened in Haiti at school and on the television constantly. I would like to offer my assistance in raising money to help rebuild Haiti. Even if I can only raise a little amount I would still like to try my hardest to help in your endevours. I would like to hear back from you as soon as possible.
                 Sincerly,
                    Zoie Schultz

I would like to know if it is okay if the picture that says "Grace City" on it, can be used as part of advertisement for a new church that I will soon be a part of. I am working Grace City Baptist Church that is forming in Paradise, Las Vagas. Thank you.

I find it all really perplexing. I guess I just don't understand the idea of Jesus Christ, or maybe I'm over thinking it? Is the idea that people realize that they would be better off living *as if* someone died for their sins? Better off *as if* God existed and were a benevolent God. I want to believe. But I just can't. There is a huge disconnect for me. I don't understand where everyone else's belief stems from and it's so hard for me to dicipher if we (we = anyone, I guess) even mean the same things when we are talking about faith and God. It's all such a puzzle to me. That typed... The only "feeling" I've ever had that there is a God, are in serendipitous events. Coincidences, if you will. So... if single points of coincidences are where I occasionally find my faith... well, the chances of me staying with it... I don't know. These sorts of feelings come every few years. It just seems bleak to me. Maybe I've just never come to faith. O_O Thanks for posting!!

I am in agreement with this for the most part, as long as you he is talking about food in the physical sense (not spiritual). The church's job is to feed spiritually, to feed the word of God to believers, to offer forgiveness and redemption through the body and blood, through our Lord's supper. I think this way of thinking is pervasive throughout American thinking. We want to be in everyone else's business but our own. We do want to take responsibility, but for others rather than ourselves, trying to correct injustice as we see it, to end poverty (as if it could be done). And we expect the government to make sure we are educating our kids, keeping crime in check, etc., when most of this should be done in the context of the family. And yes, spiritual education should start at home, if it is possible. Many do not get this and we are responsible to help those who are spiritually starving. And of course we do not turn a blind eye and have no mercy if there is need. But if there will always be need. This lost and dying world is as good as dead and our main hope, our lasting hope is for the age to come. The crux of the problem is a epidemic of "this age" thinking.
