Something I have been experiencing first hand lately is the idea of self-discipline. Track with me for a moment:
When you are young you are disciplined by almost everyone around you.
When you are a tween you rebel from anyone who tries to discipline you.
When you are a teenager you just don’t care.
When you are an adult it is up to you.
When you become an adult you no longer have as many people disciplining you or holding you accountable. This task is left to our own individual conscious and self discipline compass. As you grow older in age and more responsible in life; you are faced with thousands of decisions everyday. No one is going to help you make those decisions; it is up to you. No one is going to hold you accountable to the food you eat, the hours you sleep, the work out routine you have, the amount of money or time you give away. It is up to you.
Well here is what I have experienced first hand: when my life is left up to me I screw it up royally. I am tired of sitting in the driver’s seat of my life.
It is time to re-think what I am trying to accomplish and let it all go. Because the honest truth is that I am not really getting anywhere with this plan. I am treading water in a distance swim.
What helps you discipline yourself as you grow older?
