A few months ago I was introduced to Vince’s blog but I had never read his book. To be honest, most of the time I skimmed Vince’s stuff because it had to do with church planting. Then one day it dawned on me that Vince was actually doing all the prep-work to come to Las Vegas and plant a new church here called Verve. So I emailed Vince and told him I would love to meet with him when he comes to town. I wasn’t really sure why I told him that, but I did and for some reason, he agreed to meet with me.

Josh McDowell used to always tell me that if I had a meeting with someone, “that you better not waste their time.” I didn’t want to waste Vince’s time either, so I picked up a copy of his book so that I could learn a little more about him. Rather than learn about Vince, I learned about myself and what God thinks of me. Do you ever pick up a book and read it right when you are supposed to? Lately I have been reading some deep spiritual formation books that are really intense and challenging me as I process through all the junk in my life. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up Vince’s book, but after reading a few chapters I was hooked. This book is a fast read and Vince is tremendously funny and borderline shocking at times.

The thing about Lousy T-shirt that hit me so hard was the fact that it was exactly what I needed to hear. What was it that I needed to hear? I am good enough. The wounds of my past and my present have caused me to doubt my own value. My current situation has hindered my ability to separate truth from lies. Antonucci does a great job of walking the reader through spiritual growth in a very practical and comical way. But even more than spiritual growth, Vince lays out a clear definition of what God thinks of us.

My meeting with Vince was excellent and we had a great chat about the Vegas life. The whole time I was sitting with him I could sense his sincerity and genuineness. Even though he writes in a comedy driven style, his book is both sincere and genuine. I sensed that in each chapter and confirmed it in person. If you are looking for a lighthearted look at your own spiritual growth I highly encourage you to pick up a copy soon.
