I posted this on Twitter a few hours ago:
I posted that after hanging up from a heart wrenching call with my co-manager Steve Terrones. Steve’s brother Will is in the middle of a cancer fight. Will is fighting hard, but to be honest, he isn’t winning. It sucks and my heart is broken for Steve and his family. After praying with Steve I hung up the phone and it hit me like a freight train: cancer sucks.
Cancer affects us all. It might possibly be the one thing that I will never understand. It might be the one thing that will cause me to shake my fist towards the heavens and say, “Why? Why?” I do not understand nor can I comprehend why cancer happens and whom it chooses, but regardless of who we are or where we live, cancer will eventually affect us all. Cancer knows no age limit, race or religion. It lurks in the quiet places and the loud arenas. It finds the hurting and the healthy. Cancer affects us all.
Cell phones might cause cancer. . . Aspartame could too. What about microwaves, mold and mustard? Will we ever know what causes cancer? Will there ever be a cure? Will the answers ever come?
Honestly, it is very easy for me to ask these questions because I am not in the middle of the fight. Will and Steve are. Me? I am just an outsider who is frustrated and hurting for his friend. But most of us have been there haven’t we? A grandparent, sibling, relative or friend. . . we all know someone.
If you don’t, you will.
So this post is for you Will . . . we are praying ,the baristas and I, fervently that your pain will subside and you will enjoy the company of your family. Steve we are praying for you, your other siblings, and the rest of the Terrones clan. We love you guys and from hundreds of miles away we care deeply.
To all the rest of you that will read this post, my heart goes out to all of you who have lost someone to this horrible disease. For those of you in the middle of a fight, keep fighting! My prayers are with all of you tonight.
